Guinea Pig Sitting
We baby sat our friends' Katja and Jason's guinea pigs for 2 weeks while they were on vacation.
They set up the big-ol guinea pig pen in our living room and Butter and Scotch provided endless hours of entertainment for Sasha as she rubbed her face up against the pig pen to get a close sniff of the new apartment inhabitants.Alexis visits HK
Alexis came to HK for a short 2.5 day stay on her way back home from Australia to Switzerland. I took Friday, May 6th off to spend with her and we had a proper girls day of fun.
Started the day with a massage, then lunch with Claudia, baby Benjamin and Hannah, followed by shopping, then a foot massage. Then, Mark joined us for the evening of drinks and
dancing the night away at the nightclub Insomnia to the excellent Filipino bands.
Saturday, Alexis and I stood in line with the other techie geeks to get Alexis an ipad 2. We were there in time to get a voucher so we were assured 1, and if we would've had the patience to wait for 2 more hours while the slow clerks helped 1 person at a time, we would've walked away with one.
We didn't have patience and thus no ipad2. Instead, we went to Lamma Island for a day of sunshine and swimming on the beach with Laura and the dogs.
The beach we go to is dog friendly (of course) so its off the beaten path a bit. 20 min walk from center of the Lamma village and its nice and secluded since usually only the locals know about it.
It was a scorching hot day so we rented an umbrella from this industrious beachside dweller who rents beach umbrellas for $4 US.
He also has a fridge full of beverages he sells to thirsty sunbathers and also will let people use his garden hose to shower off the sand and salt for a small fee before the 20 min walk back to town. Here's the view from the terrace at Laura and Richard's apartment on Lamma Island. Looking back at Lamma Village center and looking out over the water over the ferry terminal.
