I'm very happy to introduce Dandy, the newest member of our family. Dandy is a foster dog from Hong Kong Dog Rescue, but he's a permanent foster since he will be staying with us until the end of his happy life.
Poor Dandy is 12 years old and has chronic kidney disease/failure so has a couple months to a year left. But, he's such a happy and cheerful dog he still enjoys life a lot.
His history is that he was found at Animal Control by Hong Kong Dog Rescue (either he was a stray or his family abandoned him there).Once HK Dog Rescue had him, they learned of his kidney problems and tried him out in foster. We are his 4th and hopefully final foster family. The previous one had him for 3 months but couldn't continue.
He's a great dog but requires medicine 2x a day and worst of all, we have to give him saline drip via injection 1x a day. Mark has to do that as I've discovered I'm incapable of inserting that huge needle in his tiny back.
All this fuss doesn't bother Dandy a bit and he and Bailey are as happy as 2 peas in a pod...if it's a pod where they don't have to touch each other.
Bailey is of course still queen of her castle and she pretty much ignores his existence. This is Bailey on her throne this morning and Dandy was sleeping at the foot of the chair.Dandy jumps at loud noises and doesn't like getting Bailey's waggy tail in his eyes so he usually stays away.
Dandy get's his name from his breed which is Dandy Dinmont Terrier. A Scottish/Irish breed. We got him a haircut on Saturday and he looks 5 years younger (and smells so much better).
Here's Dandy pre-haircut. Looks more like his name should be Fred. Now, with the haircut, he's a Dandy. (pictures w/haircut are the top 2 pics)Hopefully we can give him a happy hospice home that he deserves.
Mark Passes Advanced CantoneseMark sent me this picture of him and his Cantonese teacher William showing his completion of Advanced Cantonese class. Mark won't want it on the blog, but it proves we have more in life than dogs and cats and work so I'm putting it up. He's not fluent (not even close) but he's going to continue in the next round of courses and plans to be fluent some day.
Deep Water Bay
It's Easter Sunday now and yesterday, we decided to get out of the house and explore Deep Water Bay, a nice swimming beach on the South side of the island. We didn't swim but there were plenty of other people in the water. It was sunset and between the peaks in this picture you can see the amusement park Ocean Park.
We also stopped for a drink at the Cococabana restaurant which I'd heard about but never been. It was cute.
