I was in London all week on business. I also mixed in a little fun so here's the review.I went for some client meetings and that also meant I got to spend the weekend in London by myself which was glorious.
I wouldn't want to live alone all the time, but for 2 days it was so nice. (Mark says the same for the 2 days he had this weekend watching football and ordering pizza without someone making him feel guilty for being a sloth)
On Saturday, I spent most of the day just shopping on Oxford Street. After 2 years in Hong Kong, it's nice to be somewhere that sells clothes to women with, er, curves.
After a day of shopping, I dropped off my goodies at the hotel and went for a marathon walk all over London. Big Ben, Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park etc. I stayed in the trendy Covent Garden area which is full of cute restaurants and shops. I'd recommend it.
This past weekend was gorgeous weather and one of the best weekends London has had all summer so people were out in droves soaking up the sun and enjoying the day. British fashions were funny, and I swear it was 1985 again. Punk is very big in Britain right now. Tight jeans, rolled up at the bottom, plus all the mohawks, tattoos and Doc Martin boots....
During my weekend of freedom, I was elated to find a 24hour Subway 1 block from my hotel. In Hong Kong, there are only 2 Subways and they are far away so I never go to them. In London, I went for breakfast, lunch and dinner 2 days in a row. Why not? I love Subway. On Monday, I went to dreary Manchester but was back again by Monday night. And the rest of the week was spent in client meetings with my boss, Sue. She does everything 1st class, so good thing I got my Subway fix during the weekend.
Before leaving on Wednesday, we stopped in Harrod's for some shopping and being a silly tourist, I couldn't resist getting a pic of Sue in the Pet Kingdom "dressing groom" where doggies can try on their doggy designer duds.
Also, there was a Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed memorial (Dodi's dad owns Harrod's if you remember). And, being a royal watcher, I had to get a pic of that too. Sue said I was pathetic, but what can I say, I was a Diana fan.Another Hong Kong Typhoon
While I was in England, there was another level 8 typhoon in Hong Kong. Mark says it was pretty bad and little Bailey wouldn't even go outside to pee. Glad I missed that.
Next week, Mark's former co-worker Phil and his wife Sylvia will be visiting us in Hong Kong, so we'll have some good pics of them to share soon.
