(Picture of Mark and Bailey after a hectic moving day)
We moved into our new apartment last weekend (Oct 27th) and had some very bad luck. Our new apartment flooded. Luckily it flooded before we moved in so none of our stuff was destroyed.
We arrived at our new apartment with the 2 movers and a whole moving truck full of all our stuff and when I opened the front door, I discovered water everywhere. The toilet in the guest bathroom had overflowed sometime on Friday and continued overflowing until we arrived at noon on Saturday. To make matters worse, they use salt water in toilets in Hong Kong, so our apartment and new wood floors were covered in salt water. After much chaos of getting the apartment owners, building management and a whole crew of workers over to fix the problem and clean up all the water, we finally moved in.

However, we can't fully unpack because we are waiting for the floors to dry out and see if they warp or rot. So, we are sleeping on a mattress on the floor that we roll up during the day and all our furniture is pushed into corners. So far, the water is evaporating leaving behind piles of salt, but no major damage yet. Yet is the key word since everyone I've talked with says it will rot and warp within a few months.
Other than the flood, I love the new apartment. It's so spacious compared to the last one and I love being able to walk to work and visit Bailey during the day if I want. Plus, we are on the top floor so there is lots of light and big windows which makes it cheery. There's always got to be a silver lining somewhere right?
