Bailey's 99 Lives

For being such a perfect dog, Bailey sure does manage to get into a lot of trouble. This past week, she found a box of Mark's Ibuprofen which was mistakenly left on the coffee table, and ATE EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. Unfortunately, it was a brand new box of prescription strength 400 mg pills, 17 in total. I came home from work last Tuesday to find a happy Bailey begging for dinner as usual, but the box of pills was shredded and scattered across the living room floor. Since I didn't know how long it had been since she had eaten the pills, we called the vet and gave her some syrup of ipacac to make her vomit. After a long night of lots of vomit, we got to wait and see if she had any kidney or liver damage. Although she did okay in day 1, 2 days after she ate the pills she actually refused to eat!!!! In her 10 years of life I don't think that's ever happened. After that, she spent one day under observation in the hospital, and is on some medication and special food to settle her stomach, but is doing well now and is pretty much back to normal.

The other big news in our life this week is our sick little foster kitten is making a great comeback! We've named him Petey and he's a healthy, happy little guy. I took the other 2 kittens back to the SPCA to be adopted out to their new families because they have gotten big enough. But, little Petey is still with us finishing up his recouperation. Bailey and Petey get along pretty well. (Petey is in shut in his own room while we're not here to supervise though). If given time, I think they'd actually play and be friends. But, Petey's doing so well, he'll probably be ready to be adopted in a few days so we'll once again be kitten (and allergy) free.
