Weekend in Kuala Lumpur

We had a short weekend getaway to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this last weekend.

We arrived on Friday night and spent Saturday at an elephant sanctuary about 1.5 hours drive from KL.

All the elephants there had been orphaned or injured and rescued somehow.

This one I'm standing next too had 1 foot cut off by a trap. He's about 6 years old now and when he gets full grown, they plan to build him a prosthetic foot. For now, he hobbles on his stump.

Mark fed this big guy and didn't pull his hand away fast enough and ended up elbow deep in an elephants mouth.

Mark thought it was funny (after the fear subsided and he had his arm back)

I also did a lot of elephant feeding and couldn't believe how gentle they were.

They were very tame and we were able to hand feed them and even go swimming in the river with them.

Baby Dumbo

One baby elephant was especially cute. About 1 year old and thought it's handler was his daddy.

The little guy followed the guy wherever he went. Reminded me of Dumbo.

Swimming with the elephants

I went swimming with the elephants. Mark stayed on shore since he said he wasn't interested in swimming in elephant poo and pee.

It was an experience I couldn't pass up and no smell that I could detect:-)

The elephant dumped us off his back and into the water and then we swam around with 3 of them.

Hotel Anggun
The hotel we stayed at was cute with a cute rooftop restaurant.

Each morning I had porridge for breakfast, Malaysian style. It had ginger, chicken, spinach and carrots. I truly could eat it every day it was so tasty.

I loved the other Malaysian food too. This was Mee Karane or something "mee". Yummy.

We visited the Petronas twin towers and added to our list of visits to the world's top 10 tallest buildings.
