Cruising to Lamma Island

This Saturday, Mark and I took our 1st "junk" boat trip in Hong Kong. This is a popular weekend distraction in Hong Kong where people hire a boat for the day and cruise around the islands relaxing, eating, drinking, swimming and eventually stop for lunch or dinner on one of the islands. It's surprisingly cheap for a full day of fun. If you get at least 10 people to share the boat with you, it can be as little as $20 US per person to rent the boat for 8 hours!

Here is the boat we called home on Saturday. When we planned on taking a "junk" I never expected something as pretty as this one. I was expecting one of the wooden, ancient looking Chinese boats.
Our day started at 9:30 a.m. and the water was a little choppy in the beginning. Luckily, Mark's brawny body shielded me from the crashing wave that ended up soaking him when we were sitting on the outside deck. We had to take cover in the lower deck for awhile.


The reason for hiring the junk was because Laura's dad, step mom and sister were in town visiting from England. Here's dad and daughters mugging for the camera.

After stopping in Lamma Island for a delicious seafood lunch, we cruised around a bit to a bay for a swim. (Everyone but Dana who wasn't ready to take the bathing suit plunge) I tried to take a picture of Mark, Laura and Rachel jumping off the boat in unison, but my camera was too slow and I only got the aftermath. The bay was swarming with giant jellyfish, but everyone managed to stay far away from them. The one thing people couldn't avoid were the little sea lice that kept nibbling on your arms and legs as you peacefully floated in the clear blue water. Odd little bugs, they don't leave a mark, but just nibble away and annoy.
