Can't escape Cougar football mania

One hour until college football game day and Mark is anxiously awaiting with a beer in hand ready to watch it live through our computer. (Thanks John for providing the technical support in the U.S.) Mark plans to watch as many games as possible. The football marathon starts at 10:00 p.m. Hong Kong time and goes until noon tomorrow (Sunday). I think he can do it. Go Cougs!

When we’re not enjoying American TV on our computer, we have been exploring the city more and meeting our neighbors. Just like in the U.S., when you’re out walking an adorable dog like Bailey, people are more likely to stop and chat, which is nice. Coincidentally, while out walking today, we ran into an American couple from Seattle who were in Hong Kong for just one day and were roaming around without a map or a plan. We were right near our apartment so we hooked them up, showed them around a little and got them pointed in the right direction. Small world.

Today was blazing hot--91 degrees F, 109 degrees F when taking humidity into account. I can’t wait for the famous Hong Kong Autumn to start so we can stroll without being drenched in sweat.

Bailey took her first ride on the Mid-levels escalator today. The escalator connects our steep neighborhood with most everything in the city and makes navigating the hills much easier. It’s the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world. It is 800 meters long, and climbs 135 vertical meters. It completely freaked her out and Mark had to hold her (see pic above).

We’ve only got one more week to enjoy living in Hong Kong’s Soho neighborhood because we move to the east side of the island, closer to Dana’s office, next Saturday. So, if we survive ANOTHER move, next week’s update will be an in-depth look at life in the Taikoo Shing neighborhood.
